Materials & Construction
Laminated Fir Oar Shaft
Our laminated fir oar shafts are built by bonding layers of Douglas fir into a single, engineered shaft for strength, light weight, and consistent performance. This construction improves resistance to warping and twisting while allowing the grain to be oriented for smooth, predictable flex and rebound. The result is an oar shaft that feels lively and responsive, absorbs shock to reduce joint fatigue, and holds up to repeated stress in demanding river conditions.
SquareTop Oar Construction
SquareTop Oar Construction features an oversized, squared shaft profile at the handle that acts as a built-in counterbalance. This design improves swing weight and flotation without adding heavy oar handles, resulting in smoother recovery, better control, and reduced fatigue. The SquareTop also increases stiffness at the grip while preserving natural flex through the shaft, delivering efficient power transfer with a balanced, responsive feel on the water.
Carbon Fiber Shaft Reinforcement
Carbon Fiber Shaft Reinforcement is created by wrapping the wood shaft in carbon fiber to add strength, stiffness, and durability without significant weight gain. This wrap increases rebound and power transfer while controlling shaft twist, all while preserving a smooth, forgiving flex that is easy on joints. The result is a responsive, long-lasting oar built for demanding river conditions.
DyneLite Blade Construction
DyneLite Blade Construction uses carbon fiber laid over a laminated Douglas fir core. This combination creates a blade that is exceptionally light, stiff, and highly durable. Proven in whitewater, it delivers powerful strokes with reliable strength in demanding conditions.
Dynel & Kevlar Pro-Tip Protection
The Pro-Tip adds Kevlar and Dynel protection at the edge or tip of the blade, where it takes the most abuse for unmatched abrasion and impact resistance. This tough reinforcement guards against rock hits and hard use while extending blade life and maintaining reliable performance over time.
Marine-Grade Spar Varnish
A premium marine-grade spar varnish finish seals against moisture and UV rays while bringing out the natural wood grain and craftsmanship Sawyer is known for.
Sawyer Paddles and Oars are made to order, Solwyrx orders them to spec and rarely has them in stock, most paddles and oars will be shipped out in anywhere from 2-8 weeks.
The Sawyer Dyno X Oar (Non-Square) delivers the classic feel of a tapered wood shaft with added strength for modern river demands. Built from solid laminated Douglas fir, it provides smooth, progressive flex that’s easy on your joints and responsive in the water. X-Weave shaft reinforcement adds stiffness and rebound without sacrificing comfort, while the narrow DyneLite blade keeps swing weight light and strokes efficient.
Features
Solid laminated Douglas fir wood shaft with natural flex and feel
X-Weave fiberglass reinforcement with carbon fibers for added strength and rebound
Narrow DyneLite blade reinforced with carbon fiber for lightweight durability
Dynel & Kevlar Pro-Tip protecting the blade from abrasion and impacts
Standard rope wrap and rubber stop

Materials & Construction
X-Weave Shaft Reinforcement
X-Weave Shaft Reinforcement uses a fiberglass wrap with carbon fibers woven in an X-pattern to strengthen the wood shaft. It adds stiffness and rebound for a more efficient stroke, without feeling harsh on your joints. The result is a more durable oar that keeps the natural flex, feel, and visible beauty of the wood.
DyneLite Blade Construction
DyneLite construction consists of carbon fiber applied over a wood core, creating an oar blade that is exceptionally light, stiff, and highly durable.

Simply the best whitewater oarlock. The Cobra Oar Lock was designed in collaboration with industry professionals and includes unique features that enhance performance and usability.
Forged from a specially formulated “Mag 70” high strength bronze alloy used in marine grade propellers, clamps, and rudders. Chosen for its high tensile strength and corrosion resistance, resulting in a super heavy-duty oarlock that is extremely durable. These bronze oarlocks are also designed to be adjustable to fit your oar and style of rowing.
See OARLOCK TUNING GUIDE for more info.
Features
Extra wide horns - spread out the load bearing area and reduce stress on the oar and lock.
Elongated oval opening – smaller radius at the bottom than the top of the opening and adds 10° to 15° of vertical range of motion. The oar maintains contact with the sidewalls of the lock for a secure fit, while allowing free rotation for sculling and in-water recovery strokes. The extra range of motion allows for stand-up rowing, close-in sculling and more elevation to avoid hazards and obstacles (like those other boaters that always seem to be in the way).
Tough hammered finish – helps limit the oar’s tendency to “slip to the stop” and eases the ability to perform more advanced rowing techniques with less fatigue.
Versatility – Can be fine-tuned to fit almost any oar size and stop style.
Sold individually or in pairs.

The result is a durable shaft that delivers smooth strokes and dependable control in demanding river conditions.
